3D Week 04 Lego Project Part 02

This week's assignment was a more ambitious take on last week's Lego scene, instead of teams of three students the class was split into four teams of six tasked with creating one cohesive scene in the Lego world. I joined the environment team and modeled one of the center pieces for our environment, from conception the team was very passionate and excited to take this project as far as time and our knowledge of the craft could let us, the following screenshots are the result of our work.

Work time:
Prepping uasset with LODs and perforce integration: 1 hour
Troubleshooting and Compiling: 2 hours
Conceptual Work: 3 hours
Modeling Crystal: 1 hour
Piecing Lego Tree: 17 hours

Total Work Time: 24 hours

Lego Piece
Our vision for the scene was placed in a futuristic setting, as such the Lego piece I chose to model was the Lego crystal

Concept Work

The environment team met multiple times and created multiple iterations of what the environment could possibly look like, below are some of the sketches and concept work team members created through the process (artists - Leah Augustine & Will Perez-Valines):

  1. Shape turned out nice, but really needs the bevels on this one, along with the L0 and L1. Final UE4 layout shots turned out really well. I do wish the scope was pulled in quite a bit, still seems like the project ended up over scoped and that is why the time for the project climbed so high. I think the environment team took the brunt of the time on this one.

  2. P.S. Tree was very cool, scale could be brought down, needs to fit within the dome.
